Cops

Every rodder has some brushes with the law. Getting dinged for stunting on a car show night is one of my favorite offenses. You would think that after a small town car show on a friday night that the cops would allow a little rubber. Not the case. I've noticed that they usually step up their game to make sure they earn their pay. To be honest I have a hard time feeling sorry for the cops. They have a tough job, but think about this... If I wanted to catch all the drug dealers in a town, who should I ask? The old folks? I don't think so. If I saw a kid smoke the tires on his mustang in a overly dangerous way I would pull him over and tell him to give me the name of a drug dealer. He would probably know one or two. I'm not saying he uses drugs but every kid knows where to go to get them.  If he gave me a name I'd let him off.  Now on the other hand if I throw the book at him for his smokeshow, how much is he going to like cops and want to help them out if he gets a chance? Why not overlook the petty traffic violation and go for the dangerous criminal who is poisoning our society? Cops don't seem to grasp this concept.
One lawbreaker I don't feel sorry for is the guy who drinks and drives. In my town it happens all the time and they seem to be getting away with it. I would have no problem catching these guys. I think that every one who is caught drinking and driving should forfeit their vehicle which would then be sold at public auction and the money given to charities of victims of drinking. If this happened would you want to lend your car to a drinker? Would you as a bank want to loan money to a drinker to buy a car? This would be alot of motivation for people to quit drinking. I have a few alcoholics in my life and let me tell you it is a sad thing to be. They are caught in a trap and they know it. Don't let the fun, sexy, beer commercials fool you, Alcohol will destroy you. You become a slave to it. You are in bondage to it. I've seen 50 year old guys sitting in a work lunch room bragging about how drunk they got last weekend at some party. Excuse me but isn't that the same junk you were bragging about in high school? They've allowed alcohol to become their reason for living.  I wonder if the cops let them off in many cases because they themselves like to get drunk on the weekend?
If I ever get stopped by a cop I always hope for an older, experienced officer who has been around long enough to know that he has nothing to prove. These are usually the guys that will give you a warning and can tell the difference between a little fun and flat out dangerous driving.  Just pray you don't get stopped by a female cop. They are always trying to prove their authority and make an example of everyone. And they like to scold. If a male cop gives you a good tongue lashing chances are you won't be getting a ticket. The female cop will give you both! One thing i have learned in all my experiences is to be as friendly and as humble as possible with the cops. This helps your cause and makes the job easier for the police. If their job is easier they may be less stressed and show more mercy. Mercy means overlooking an offence and God knows we should all practice this in our lives.
Keep it real!
